Troubleshooting WebMaster Automatic Reports and Text Messages

Automatic report email is not received:

  • Verify that the auto reporting page is programmed correctly (the expected frequency of the report, and that it will send it via email).

  • Go to the Communications page and make sure that the email address for the customer is correct, the controller email address is filled in, and the SMTP IP address is correct. Make sure that the "send email via" is correct (either modem or Ethernet).

  • If you are able to STAP, then the modem and ISP must be working correctly. If you enter your email address in the Communications page, and then send a test report from the Auto reporting page, and don't receive it, it must be a bad SMTP IP address, or there is a problem with the ISP's mail server.

  • At the top of the Auto reporting page, there is a link called "View Log File". If you click on this, and select "open from current location", you will see all the attempts at sending a report, and whether it was successful or failed, and the reason for failure.

  • Note that if the ISP has a problem, and an email is not successfully sent after 5 tries (every 10 minutes), the controller will stop trying.

Cell phone text message is not received:

  • Does your phone accept email or text messages?

  • For European customers, if your wireless carrier does not offer the EMAIL to SMS gateway service directly, a 3rd party MUST be used to provide this service.

  • Make sure that the phone's email address is typed into the Cell Phone Text Message field, not the Email field.

  • Go to the Communications page and make sure that the controller email address field is filled in and the SMTP IP address is correct. Make sure that the "send email via" is correct (either modem or Ethernet). If sending via Ethernet, make sure that the gateway address is correct to get outside of the network, and the SMTP IP address is outside the network. Many networks require the controller email address be registered with the network.
